If there is a perception out there that somehow Canada is void of criminal activity or violent crime, that is far from the truth.
In my opinion based on the population of around 35 million, a daily accounting of criminal activity from property crime to murders would surprise not only foreigners but even Canadians.
And it's not getting better, kids are killing kids, drugs and gangs fight in big cities, recently Edmonton was in the news for murders, Vancouver, Nanimo, Prince George in BC, Winnipeg Man., Toronto and parts of Ontario and organized crime in Quebec and Montreal, we have an epidemic.
Still much of the focus by police is on what's visible, in Kelowna that means getting drug dealers and hookers out of the downtown core so vacationers don't see the truth.
The shooting in Kelowna is not surprising and sadly it won't be the last.

  • one down 2 to go

  • @warrior2scumbag There is such a emphasis on being politically correct in society that it's gotten common sense and the truth concealed. I agree with your assertion. Just don't say it to loud or you will be labeled.

  • GOOD FOR YOU!!! THE CANADIAN AND BC GOVERNMENTS HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR 20 YEARS TO COVER UP THEIR GANG PROBLEM. NOW IT IS GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO DO IT!!!

What they do not want to admit is that it all started with the Hong Kong Triads who came in with the huge Hong Kong immigration of the late 1980's early 1990's. This hit is typical Triad style - Broad Daylight - designed to show the population that the gangs are the real power - not the police, the government, or the democratic public.

  • Respond to this video... The Globe and Mail just did a story - Kelowna RCMP seeks more forces to fight growing gang problem

From Monday's Globe and Mail - The police have also seen a rise in more violent crimes that are related to organized crime and drugs. Just last week, a 28-year-old Edmonton man with gang ties in Alberta was arrested for carrying a loaded .45-calibre handgun while he was supposedly waiting for someone outside a bar.

“We have many, many stabbings that go on in the bar sector every weekend that are gang-related,” Supt. MacKinnon said.

Local mainstream media doesn't want to upset the tourism sector by revealing the truth of whats happening in the Okanagan, not only about crime but even economy, environment and lifestyle.

  • There is probably more gang members in Kelowna in the summer time than in Vancouver. Kelowna basically is their summer vacation spot.

  • @SilverstoneZED I was thinking the same thing, also they can afford the lake shore homes. It could be a good story for an investigative journalist.

  • how many violent shootings have there been in kelowna in the last 5 years? look at the rate for South Carolina, or Atlanta.

you've got to comparatively look at this shooting of this gangster that had a huge list of enemies.

  • I could hear the shooting i was so scared.

  • When I lived in Vancouver in the early 1990's, you could see the whole gang culture brewing, there was such intensity of intimidation and threats, verbal and implied, on the streets, in the schools, in shopping malls, and 99% of it was perpretrated by new comer Hong Kong immigrants, known as "Asians" (the liberal politically correct term, to lessen the focus on an "Identifiable Group").

Small wonder it spread like wildfire through BC society, especially in the Lower Mainland. Now its endemic.

  • got what was coming to him
