Opening Day and launch of City Year Los Angeles. Closing remarks by City Year CEO and Co-Founder, Michael Brown. Los Angeles is now part of 16 other cities across the country that has young people to challenge cynicism and put their idealism to work. FYI - More than 1,300 young idealists haved pledged to serve America a members of the 2007-2008 City Year National Corps, including 75 in the City of Angels. Those in Los Angeles hope to transform the lives of over one thousand students as well as the schools, parks, playgrounds and community centers where they will serve.

Congratulations to my daughter Jessica who will be graduating from City year tomorrow evening. Those youngsters work hard for the city. They put in a lot of long daily hours. I am proud of my daughter and all of the many who withstood the entire year of the program. Congratulations, you are all winners!
