ESPN left out so much information just to make Paterno look bad and to capitalize on this; this video is an insult just like everything else they've made since the story broke. Whats worse is that the majority of people just blindly believe anything these media outlets say. In the end it's all about ratings.
if these actions happened so long ago, then why did they have to wait precisely until his shining record breaking moment to tear it all down? to make people believe that PSU is this horrible place where no one cares about children or something? it's amazing to me that people can't see how ESPN manipulated the population into believing what they put out there. just think about it, ESPN is getting rich by tearing down the legacy of a great man. using his funeral to cover the scandal. disgusting.
the whole thing is sickening. the allegations are sickening both of Sandusky and Bernie Fine, but it's also sickening to see how ESPN pounced on this and it resulted in a great man being dead within months and dying in an undignified way with this saga still looming. even if all this stuff happened, don't you find it puzzling that this news "broke" right when Paterno won his 409th game?
if it isn't media spin, then why wasn't Jim Boeheim fired? why wasn't the Bernie Fine thing a "cover up"? Why did Syracuse remain #1 in basketball? why didn't the Syracuse board of trustees fire Boeheim for "not doing more"? where isn't the same litmus test used there, when the accused remained on the Syracuse staff all this time when ESPN had a tape connecting the dots. it sounds like PSU did not allow Sandusky to continue coaching after knowing about the allegations, unlike Syracuse.
it's basically as you say "your job is to get ratings". that is true, but it's a sad truth, because you have a man in Joe Paterno that actually ran a program that prepared student athletes for the real world. he was beloved and he earned that, legitimately and then all the support he earned was lost thanks to ESPN's hypercritical self righteousness. if Sandusky has a problem, then isn't that Sandusky's problem. what does it have to do with Penn State or Joe Paterno? that's all media spin.
and of course what Sandusky is accused of is wrong. most people should criticize him for those allegations. it is normal to do so, but they use that morality to say ohh all the rest of it goes with the territory, which it obviously doesn't. this saga was unleashed on the entire country when the country needed to just watch college football and forget about the worries of the world. this saga may seem normal to ESPN, but they created a problem by making the good guys the bad guys.
@CptUSAmerica basically, this whole thing was orchestrated to bring down PSU. It was pure jealousy. just look at the timing of it. after Paterno wins his record breaking 409th win. they made it seem like the entire PSU school was in on a "cover up". every school has dirt in their closet, but the mainstream media is the one choosing who to bring down. they are exerting their power so that PSU can't be good at football anymore and they can no longer stand for what they used to. it's horrific.
@CptUSAmerica the stress from this and ESPN's role is as hypocritical and as self righteous as it gets. ESPN punished Joe Paterno for another man's actions. At the same time, they covered up a similar allegation at Syracuse involving an active coach, only to turn self righteous when vilifying Paterno for "not doing more", then cash in on Paterno's funeral by covering the funeral and trying to score ratings points by using his obituary as another opportunity to talk more about the scandal.
@CptUSAmerica What Sandusky did is not Joe Paterno's fault. This guilt by association contributed greatly to Joe Paterno's death, which was created by the mainstream media. Blackledge alluded to this as well. Had the saga not been unleashed and name associated with Penn State, Paterno might not have died yet and may have coached the remainder of the season, and when he retired he would have retired without this negative publicity for something he had no control over.
If You Have a Story & You're A Business Like ESPN & Your Job Is To Get Ratings... Are You Going To Run With A No Name Like Bernie Fine Or The Legend Joe Paterno?
Exactly... Use Your Brains Morons. Paterno Is The Bigger Draw & In The Media The Bigger Draw ALWAYS Wins... Its Common Sense.
Now Thats Not To Say What Bernie Fine Did Was Okay. IT IS NOT!! Raping Innocent Children Is The Devils Work & Whoever Takes Part In Such Acts Should Burn In Hell !
