I have to say that I hate text message abreviations. I do text message but try to avoid abreviations whenever possible. I think that big should be the new small and cell phone companies should make screen sizes bigger so that people can send me messages I can actually understand. I'm from Canada and my most hated abbreviation is referring to the city of Toronto as Tdot.
I think "LOL" has almost become the written equivalent of a verbal tick, at least that's how it can be for me, anyway, and if I use it, I'm usually not even thinking about it and get confused when people ask me why I'm laughing when I do say "LOL". I do agree in general about acronyms and text speak and most of them are really stupid and can wind up being a pain in the ass to read, and take up more time and effort to write than simply typing out the word.
Don't get me wrong: A person who uses the convienience of it (for example) to respond to the message "Are you coming over?" by texting back "Yes" is not the kind of thing I'm talking about.
And neither am I saying that the avalability or existance of text messageing is the cause of the watering down of our language. I think it's the oppositte.
I think stan is taking this text message thing too far.
Ok some people take that text message attitude to normal life but doesn't it doesn't have its practical use and we shouldn't use it just because its a metaphor to modern day society problems.

yeah. most pieces of technology order our lives around themselves. They mold our brains, our thoughts and our feelings. The ultimate fetish.
