In an innovative move to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT), the nation's 14th largest public transit system, has electrified key accessories on 13 new county buses. Leaders expect the electrified buses to be 25 percent more fuel efficient.
MDT formally committed to improving operational and energy efficiency throughout the county in May 2009 and is one of the nation's first transit agencies to electrify bus accessories. Leaders chose the upgrades to provide a comfortable ride for the agency's more than 70 million annual bus passengers, reduce costs and demonstrate the county's commitment to environmentally aware solutions.
