Repair work on Northern Kentucky interstates will be resuming next week following the NASCAR racing meet at the Kentucky Speedway. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has suspended construction work on Interstate 71 to allow northbound and southbound lanes to operate at full capacity. Construction halted on June 30th and is scheduled to resume on Sunday, July 10th. It's one of several projects in Northern Kentucky in which old pavement is being repaired or replaced on interstate routes 71, 75 and 275.
There's also a ramp widening project, and repainting of bridges. The projects are known collectively as "Revive the Drive -- NKY." For route-specific information, visit the project website at http://transportation.ky.gov/ReviveTheDrive or Kentucky's 511 travel information website, http://511.ky.gov.
Local travelers as well as out-of state visitors will need to stay alert and be prepared to encounter work zones and lane closures for the rest of 2011. Watch for electronic message boards for information on how to minimize delays when traveling thru the area.
The east end bridge approach is now nearly equal in cost the spaghetti junction redesign, where 3 interstates converge, and it retains the absurd $1/4 billion tunnel. Meanwhile downtown has been stripped of the paltry amount of money budgeted for aesthetic improvements. This project is truly the biggest urban planning mistake of the 21st century and will cause over 100 years of economic stagnation. Shame on you KYTC for your efforts to subvert democracy.

The priorities represented by the Ohio River Bridges Project are undemocratic, economically detrimental and socially unjust. The only scientific poll done on this issue indicates that >60% of Louisvillians are opposed to the toll-funded downtown ORBP. This project calls for building 100 year infrastructure that exclusively connects to a 1950s style elevated waterfront expressway on Louisville's central business district riverfront, image defining gateway and historical heart.
