I got the courage to try this after watching KelzWayBeauty do the same thing on a lace front unit. I've wanted to do this for a long time and now I'm happy I did :) (See below for instructions)
I wet the hair on the unit first where I plan on making a part then allow it to dry so i can see how the part will sit when dry. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the process. I part my own hair to see how the part would look, checking to see just how far back I want to part to go back. (make sure the part is in a position that you would like for a long time, since its permanent). I chose a middle part because I can move it slightly to the left or right for a slightly different look. I put the unit on my head to see where the part will sit. I then use hair clips to keep the hair in place then I cut the unit down the part.

@samLones thank you, I used hair hair clips around the parameter i'm actually going to sew an elastic strap to it to make it more secure from ear to ear
