Owl City has be blazing the charts with their hit song "Fireflies," but is there something in the melody that sounds familiar?

Doc Blogstein: Music Detective thinks it sounds suspiciously like Toto's "Africa".

Hear for yourself and tell us what YOU think!

As heard on this weeks Radio Happy Hour: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/drblogstein/2009/12/02/radio-happy-hour

  • They both have the same chord progression and ToTo might have been inspiration for Owl City, either way they are great songs and YES...both similar but not the same

  • I mentioned this when the song first came out.

  • sounds very simmilar!

  • They may not be exactly the same but I'm with bradleyland, every single time I hear this song my brain starts to launch into Africa...

  • Blogstein is crap, they don't go together at all

  • ...so?

  • WTF! NOBODY BASHES KARL WOLF FOR THIS...

... even in the Coldplay/Satch case... (love Satriani though)

... you can't copyright chords, rhythms or non-melody. even then it gets shady.

  • I sure there's a lot of sound that use the same chord progression.

  • This is retarded! They don't even sound alike! People and their damn conspiracy theories!

  • my uncle came to me telling me this and i thought he was crazy intell i found this video but i can hear it very well now. Video helped alot thanks
