A real tai chi technique is to make use of the force of the opponent and to avoid from being injured by reacting simulteneously. One can suceeds it only by following a good master who can demonstrate how to do it in different circumstances.

@taichicheng1 it's just an exercise. obviously in real life you won't go to your assailant and say "ok now hold the back of your hand to mine like this... ok now lets go in a circle.. hah made u jump!" but the exercise develops the forces you use for self defense later.

@Ghostfuture what benefit would it be to the person jumping around to fake it? to make his master look good? is that what every single tai chi student is led to do? if it were fake you'd have at least one former student crying out how their master asked them to fake it at some point.

very nice, mike.

I can only see a game between the master and their student. It is only a waste of time to learn such technique that require the cooperation of another person. I hope people be more smart to distinglush what is a real tai chi kung fu.

they are jumping because its what they have been taught to do. its to keep from falling backwards.

laughing isn't a good way to teach =[
.... or is it?

There is a way to make people jump like that. Its like creating the same sensation someone has when they go to sit on a chair and realise its not there. Seems like you've made your mind up though - and I can understand why.

What kind of force makes a person jump like that? Cleary, he is jumping himself, perhaps to make the teacher look good. The only 'proof' for this kind of stuff is people who believe in it insisting some magic or qi force is at work. For everyone who looks at it with an open mind, it clearly is fraud. No one can make an unwilling subject jump like that - no one. Believe it if you like - it's your intelligence that is being conned y a common con man. Silly really.
This is what push hands is really all about -- great stuff! Thanks for sharing this!
