This was done between the exhibition performance of Cincinnati Tradition and preliminary awards at the Northern Kentucky Marching Band Festival on September 19th, 2009, where Loni and I first started dating ten years ago (there of course was a time when we weren't dating, but it's still our anniversary). She is an alum of the Dixie Heights Marching Colonels (one of two groups playing), where I currently instruct. We are both members of the Cincinnati Tradition Drum and Bugle Corps (who was the other group playing). She was a member and instructor for Southwind; I am a Cavalier FMM and former instructor of Marion Glory Cadets.
I wrote this song for her; Campbell County alum and best friend of ours Allison Berkley helped with the lyrics (which, due to the emotion of the situation, I messed up towards the end). Dixie's band director Robb Duddey was the conductor; Southwind alum Mark Mayfield, who is also an alum and instructor of Dixie and alum and former instructor of Tradition, was the "ring bearer."
I want to thank with Dixie and Tradition for the preparation they put into this and also for the performance. I too would like to thank band parent and volunteer Cindy Benken for making this particular video of it and Campbell County band director and Madison alum Nick Little for giving me the opportunity to do this at the show.
Disclaimer: I sing better than this! I was doing everything not to cry during the song; you can actually hear the frog in my throat keeping me away from the center of pitch. :-)
