Cool video, but technically this isn't a Material Issue cover. The original version was recorded by Green Pajamas in 1982 or so. Jeff Kelly, the songwriter, is featured in the Material Issue video. Anyway, that's a small quibble - thanks for posting this!
Yes, I know it's a cover. Just like the Cheap Trick version of Cal Man is a cover. But, Cal Man is different than the Move version in many ways. This song is very close to Jeff's, but I give credit to MI since that was the one we learned it from. Same could be said for anybody that covers Hey Joe, and claim it's a Hendrix tune. I don't get picky, I just play them and MI was a great band, miss them.
Oh, I completely agree that MI kicked ass, and I give them all the credit in the world for discovering this obscure gem and giving it a much wider exposure. And I know what you mean about covers becoming "owned" by the people who made them famous - when I play Louis Armstrong's original version of "Oops! I Did It Again!", most everyone asks who it is doing that Britney Spears tune.

You bring up Louie!
The late great Joey Ramones "It's a Wonderful World". I love that!
Come to think of it, I would rather hear The Ramones "Surin Bird or California Sun" then the originals.
