Walking thru the village on our way out of the canyon. You can't tell from the shoddy camera work, but at the end of the clip what I'm zooming in on are 2 porta potties, and a pile of refuse on the ground next to them. A village dog is digging thru the trash looking for food.
Online stories say there is trash lying around - well that's not everywhere. Just like any neighborhood, there are good neighbors and bad. Only one or 2 homes looked excessively messy... but really none of them were that dissimilar to driving the back roads in depressed areas of the deep south. (Picture car parts in the yard, broken kids toys, tools, tarps, random shoes, etc.)
The kids we saw / met were happy, locals did smile and talk to us. Your interaction with the people of Supai is what you make it, just like anywhere else.
