It's an EWI improvisation on the very nice jazz standard " i didn't know what time it was" from Rodgers and Hart. Chords are played with a very bluesy Rhodes

i am a keyplayer, have a melodica, but to loud, ya know, neighbours...

    thank´s - Levi

it's a instrument with a good learning curve, and if you're a keyplayer it's a good thing. You need some work to get skills , specialy with octave rollers.

    thank's.....

if you want a good rack with effects, you can download "rakarrack" .

but one of the best synth is "alsa modular synth" .

    best regards

Hi! Nice solo, I like it! But I can see why some critics arise...

I'm a sax and ewi player too, and default sounds are very flat overall, there's not a lot of variety and a lot of them are not really expressive enough for my taste.

Can I ask you some more detail on your patch programming and effects? I'm a Linux user too but I've not yet been able to experiment with effects, I usually play my ewi with stock sounds but I'd like to expand my sound.

  • @lexo30 . Lexo, i understand what you mean and an i partially agree with you. about this video: i tried to record and mix my ewi with a midifile, i used no effect and the sound was monophonic, so it sounded duller than reality. But , i'm ok to say that the internal sound are not comparable to a high tech synth.

i'm programing patch with pure dat and using linux effects, ans i can say that the result is very good. I'm a saxophone player, and i don't use my EWI for emulative sound.

    best regards

  • @manta965 Well, if you like the sound of it, who am I to argue? Like I say, I think you're a fantastic player but I can't understand why anyone would want to play something that sounds like that.

  • @lexo30 there are people who have made "patches" that give a more emulative sound like a conventional instrument but these base sounds are not meant to sound like other instruments it is a synthesizer sound not oboe or saxophone or bass. i have also noticed most ewi players play sax or piano so its not like musicians aren't playing them, and its only 600 USD that is tiny compared to my 2,800 sax and that's just an intermediate model, i personally think it is amazing what some ewi players can do

    thank's for your comment,

i'm just playing EWI 40100s (on rock steady too) ,the harmony of rock steady is simpler, so it's a first point and i agree with you the sound is better..

    best regards

  • Which do you like playing more: the 4000 or USB? You are very good on both, but your Aretha jam on the USB sounded much more natural for some reason, and the sound seemed better, or more true.

  • It seems to be only EWI owners, presumably hypnotised by the sheer amount of cash they've shelled out for their instruments, who fail to notice that EWIs of no matter what generation sound absolutely terrible. I can't believe that this model sounds as cheesy and tinny as the models I heard 20 years ago. Nothing against your playing, but it's a rotten instrument. Even though you are a far, far better player than me, I would refuse to play with you if you were going to play this thing.
