"Sheer Heart Attack" was half-finished at the time of the eponymous album. Roger Taylor sang lead on the demo but for the definitive version the band decided Mercury should co-sing lead vocals (probably based on the fact that May had already sung two songs and Taylor one). Guitars and bass were played by Taylor, apart from some guitar "screams" by May during the instrumental section.
During this time, the punk rock movement went into full effect, and this song was viewed as something of a jab at the musicians who felt bands like Queen were too self-indulgent. Of note is the lyric "I feel so inarticulate", and the fact that Taylor stated in interviews that he thought many of the 1970s punk bands had very little talent.

  • AHHH I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK! SHEER HEART ATTACK!!!

  • omg! Anthrax!

  • We Will Rock You and We are the Champions are fucking cool songs...but it's almost criminal that most people will ignore this fucking monster of a bad ass song. Seriously. This song rocks harder than most bands can ever dream of.

  • HAY HAY HAY HAY It was the DNA! This was my favorite song on the first album I ever bought.

  • I stole this record from my mom when I was a kid - probably because the album cover scared the hell out of me - and for a while this was the only song I would listen to. It's enchanting in a hard & heavy way. But doesn't Brian May's solo start to sound like a squeaky swing set? Yeah - LOVE IT!

  • SPEED METAL!

  • i always think roger taylor sing this song on the cd but its fredie mercury

  • @sabbathfreak1 nice!

  • @PolMcCartney Not even 50% About only 25-30% of Queen's works was hard rock and that too in 1970s mostly. Despite being such highly talented and creative hard rockers they chose to go 'soft' later.
