Hi Simon. I recently started taking Raku classes and would like to able to do this at home so I'm fascinated by the homemade raku kiln. In the video, you say the kiln goes up to 1000 degrees. Is this farenheit? In class, they heat the glazed pieces to 1850 F. Also, how do you know the inside temperature of the kiln and how do you know when to take the pieces out? Thanks. Lw4beau

ALso, where is the video clip you mentioned that shows how you made a kiln using wire mesh?
Thanks!

Where would you get this "ceramic fiber" that you lined the inside of the barrel with? Anything else that can be used instead of this fiber and glue or paste?
Thanks for the video! Very helpful!

Hello Simon, I have a Question on the Kiln, Where did you get the burner for the kiln, i have looked everywhere, and can never find anything like that one that you have. It's name is like a Vascallini burner or something like that haha i forgot the name, but i was just wondering where you found yours and how i could get one myself. Thanks!

@riottaba You are very fortunate to be the grandson of the greatest potter who ever lived
Fascinating. I made raku when I was kid. Are you related to Bernard Leach? Regards Alan

Did you apply the ceramic Fibre all the way down the drum? Also where did you find the oil drum? A response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi ..yes apply the ceramic fiber all the way down to the base .Make the base inside out of some refractory brick - not heavy kind but soft ( cut the bricks to shape. ) Get the oil drum from a garage mecanic or build a kiln like some of my later clips out of wire mesh.... good luck . SL
