Annie Moore from Co.Cork, accompanied by her two younger siblings, Philip and Anthony, emigrated from their homeland in December 1891 to begin a new life in America. Annie made history by becoming the 1st immigrant to be processed through the newly opened Ellis Island Processing Centre on New Years Day 1892, her 15th birthday. This recording of Brendan Graham's "Isle of Hope Isle of Tears" is by Pádraig Mór (formerly of Glasgow bands Saoirse and Shebeen) accompanied by his daughter Siobhán on backing vocals, Julie on violin and is taken from his album "Legends", released in September 2008.

  • Beautiful performance. This wonderful song is the counterpoint to another

Irish song, "Noreen Bawn". Noreen was laid low by the curse of

    emigration.

It's the eternal human condition. Which path shall we choose when we

    can't know what will happen?

In my case, my great-great grandfather come over to America from the

    Old Sod.

    Thanks for posting.
