Demonstrating my new box. A four voice melodeon in C with one low reed (16'), two middle reeds (8') and one high reed (4'). I play a series of scales to show the five combinations of reeds and a couple of tunes that I've almost mastered. The first is an Italian tune "Il Ballo Del Lepre" and the second is Walter Bulwer's version of "Off She Goes".

  • Is it custom made? I've never seen a 1.5 row with such an arrangement of couplers and bass. Looks like you've beaten the myth of the one row's limited versatility!

  • Thanks for the comment.

The one and a half row box like this is common in southern Italy but usually they're only two or three voice and 9+3 rather than the 10+4 like this one. The four voice boxes are offered by some makers but I think they usually have three middle voices and a low voice.

  • Nice execution, beautiful melodeon!

  • Thanks, I've fallen in love with it:-)

  • You are correct. I have a 4 bass with 3 reeds on the treble side (LMM+). 4 bass is usually 9+4, but like yours, there are 2 basses that have 9+4 and there are 4 basses that only have 9+3. That's a pretty large looking 2 bass, which I guess is needed to hold the extra treble reed! The number of basses (2, 4 or 8) usually depends on the regional tradition the box comes from in Southern Italy.

  • Really Nice. :)

  • sounds like it's in tune! I've never seen a melodeon that looked like that.
