American comedian Rich Hall on the death of the road movie and American cinema at the hands of George Lucas and Star Wars via the anaolgy of a roadside diner and their stodgy cheescake.

Taken from his excellent BBC road movie documentary 'Continental Drifters'.

  • Rich Hall is a genius. I'm proud to have him representing America on QI.

  • I love his voice. Whiny, nasal, but weathered and experienced all at the same time.

  • @RincewindsHat66 The best part is, he's won most of the episodes he's been on.

  • i wish the full documentary was available online!

  • man i love this guy

  • @leaguesmanoframsgate Given his attitude towards overly commercial entertainment (he does seem to hate Disney), his tastes seeming a bit more highbrow than simple good vs. evil fantasy stories and the fact he would have been an adult when Star Wars first came out, unless he's a secret sci-fi fan, it's probably safe to say he doesn't really rate Star Wars. But I could be wrong.

  • @leaguesmanoframsgate I don't know what he thinks of it but it's difficult to call Star Wars a bad film given how immensely popular it is. He's just saying it was good for the sake of argument (not that I personally think it's bad or anything).

  • @RincewindsHat66 Agreed, but he's vertually silent on QI xD

  • @zionravescene Judging from the earliest part of the rant, he thinks that the original trilogy was genuinely good but he hates what it became and how everything else became a franchise driven mess, thus stifling creativity and screwing over writers who wanted to tell a particular story by having bed-tanned men in suits that cost more than some people's houses telling them that they can't see a market because there's no possibility of a sequel. I am not at all bitter and am coping perfectly fine.

  • He likes performing in the UK cos he says we have a sense of humour anc laugh about stuff. Who'd a thought it eh?

  • I laughed so damn hard when I watched this on the BBC. He's amazingly astute when it comes to films.
