  • The technology could be improved, and *might* be practical in large systems that require silence, but could never be shrunk down smaller or lighter than traditional gunpowder bullets. Magnets are heavy, no avoiding that. And capacitors need size to hold power.

    Gunpowder works because it packs an extreme amount of energy in a small package.

    Railguns don't have less recoi than firearms, they have less perceived recoil, because the railgun itself weighs so much. You cant rewrite Newton's Law
