LAS VEGAS — Ford gave journalists an early look today at the F-150 SVT Raptor, a high-performance off-road truck that will make its world debut at the 2008 SEMA Show.

Designed for hard-core off-road use, the F-150 SVT Raptor gets a long list of suspension upgrades along with unique bodywork and an optional 6.2-liter V8 engine. The Raptor is the first application of the new 6.2-liter V8 and although its specifications haven't been finalized, Ford officials said to expect around 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

A 5.4-liter 3-valve V8 is the standard engine. Both engines are backed by a six-speed automatic transmission. All Raptors will come standard with four-wheel drive and a locking rear differential.

Suspension upgrades include new upper and lower A-arms up front, retuned leaf springs in back and a set of race-quality Fox Racing Shox that combine to allow up to 11.2 inches of travel up front and 13.4 inches in back.

The track is 7 inches wider than a standard F-150, so the Raptor also gets wider front and rear fenders along with longer half-shafts and a revised tie rod to maintain proper suspension geometry. The standard 17-inch wheels are cast aluminum while the specially designed BFGoodrich tires measure 315/70R17.

The interior features bucket seats with additional side bolstering, metallic door trim, a unique SVT instrument panel and a set of console-mounted auxiliary switches for owner-installed accessories.

Ford officials said they expect to begin production of the F-150 SVT Raptor in the summer of 2009.

  • you have said this on nearly all the videos of this vehicle. If it were unreliable it would not have took third in its class in the baja 1000. fords are very reliable vehicles my family owns 4 fords and we have not had a problem with them at all. from my 1970 ford bronco to my brothers t-bird they all run well.

  • They recently sued a Ferrari because of the name! How can you compare a tractor and a plane!

    Idiots!

  • CHRYSLER WHO ? WHERE IS THE NEW SRT ??

  • @elputopez09 Haha thanks. Had to set him straight.

  • its about time someone drove this truck how it should be driven.

  • @TheBABYEATA lmao well said man.

  • @chrisbmxhowto Oh and i almost forgot. i also make 25 miles to the gallon with my 6 speed. You cant make that in a Hemi. You want me to tell you why you cant make that in a Hemi, BECAUSE THEY FUCKING SUCK!

  • @chrisbmxhowto listen up. hemi is junk ok. no power,no fuel milage. My Sierra puts out 330hp and 350 ft-lb of torque. now thats at the rear end. dodge or anybody else messures from the flywheel. so your cousins dodge is only putting out 245hp aka. NOTHING. at the flywheel my Sierra is pushing out 430hp and almost 500ft-lb of torque. If you dont believe me, tell me where i can meet you and your cousin and i show ya'll what the back of a GMC looks like. End of story, I Win.

  • @TheBABYEATA Very easily? Hemi is nowhere near junk and has long of been thought of as the most powerful out there. Your '11 puts out just over 300 HP, right? My cousin's 04 dodge ram puts out 345. I'm not saying Dodge is the best out there, but Hemi is amazing.

  • @chrisbmxhowto then how can you say ford and chevy doesnt have anything on hemi when its clearly junk.
