After setting up a lab, we decided to re-try one of Dr. Carr's old demonstrations with a soap solution and some good old fashioned natural gas. This is the Anderson University Chemistry TAs at their finest. I lost a few hairs on my right hand in the filming of this video

  • I lost all the hair on the back of my hand and most of one eyebrow doing this in highschool chemistry, but it was a fun experiment.

  • The methane gas was pumped into the washing up liquid, causing the bubbles to contain methane gas. As you ignite the gas, it erupts into flames but the hand doesn't get fried - it's only warm. I did this in the lab today, it was fun =)

  • lol

  • I take it something in the soap solution ignites the combustion of the methane? Either that or its the other way around.

That was a cool video guys.

  • howd u do that?
