0:01-0:10 I've seen how much he needs you. How much you need him. (Merlin's mom)
1:55-1:59 Sometimes I think I know you, Merlin. Other times... (Arthur)
2:00-2:04 Well, I know you. (Merlin)
3:27-3:31 I'm happy to be your servant. Till the day I die. (Merlin)
This is my first video made a) on my new laptop Lupin and b) using Sony Vegas Pro 9! Huge deal! I started working on it while I was up at a beautiful cottage in Buckhorn Ontario, and it was a really fun experience. When I got home on Saturday afternoon, all I had left to do was the final chorus, but as you can see, it took me a couple of days to kick my OCD out of the picture and just focus on the vid itself, rather than technical issues. My OCD of the month seems to be crossfades - don't you hate it when they're a bit clunky and leave imprints of the previous clip during the fade? Ugh, so annoying! But I got over it, slaved over crossfades until they were smooth and charged on. And I FINISHED IT, yay!

So, Merlin and Arthur. THEY ARE SO CUTE! I MEAN WHAT. I never expected them to be as funny and affectionate as they are together. There's just a real warmth to their relationship. I feel like I say this all the time, but the nature of this video? Totally up to your interpretation. In my head, it's about their friendship, because honestly, the song fits their canon dynamic incredibly well. "I'm always all for you" - come on, that's so Merlin! But you are obviously allowed to see it as something more, something romantic.
Before I was even interested in watching the show, RubberDuckInc told me that there are mostly slash videos in this fandom. The more I thought about it, and now that I've seen their dynamic? They might not be JUST slash! Arthur&Merlin are simply the focus of the series, and as we've only got one season down, not a lot of the other relationships have been as fully fleshed. I kind of like that, though - I think it's good that there's such a strong, complex male/male friendship on family TV. They have such a twisted but REALISTIC bond, going from hate to tolerance to a genuine want and need to protect each other. I didn't really show that exact progression in this vid, mostly just the protection stage, but the other stuff is awesome working ground for future projects.
Want to know what I ~LOVED~ about making this video? Nothing had to be manipped. Everything is honestly displayed as it happens and that is RARE. The closest I'd come to manipping would be rearranging the order of the shots, but it'd still be the same scene, same exchange of eye contact, smiles, laughs, whatever have you. TELL ME THEY'RE NOT ADORABLE, I DARE YOU.
Originally, this was going to be about Merlin's very human fear of Arthur's reaction to his magic. It instead became a commentary on the more stripped down aspect of their relationship, so not just the magic, not just princes and nobility. For example: I really love the unicorn episode more than life, and that's why there is such a focus on the Final Test scene (for newbies: the scene where they're sitting at the table on the beach). It is really just such a pretty episode, and the point-of-no-return where there really was no question that Merlin and Arthur would die for one another - because of who they are as PEOPLE, not titles. The scene at the end of the episode (where Arthur makes the choice to bury the unicorn) is the most subtle, sweet way of apologizing in the history of ever, if you ask me. It might be cheesy to other people, but to me, it was just very genuine, very revealing. Bradley and Colin have amazing chemistry, and I think it shines in ep 11 especially.
The quiet part just before the climax took a lot of time to edit! I went through several voice overs, and attempted an overlapping audio montage, but it just didn't sit right. I instead just went with a simple quote from their last conversation of the series, and probably the best summary of their relationship at this stage in the game. Hopefully in series two, the magic won't be secret anymore!
All in all, this vid as a whole is about that very real part of their dynamic; what they don't say, but show in everything that they do, whether it be a live or die situation, or just Arthur making Merlin wear a ridiculous hat. Their love (however you see it) is ~*~EVERYWHERE~*~. You can't help but adore them.
Finally, some credits: Thanks to RubberDuckInc for the texture, DreamScene for the butterly animation, and to bubbleforest for not hating me for using this song after her perfect Kris&Adam vid.

Thank you! It's a show called Merlin about legendary Arthurian figures like Arthur, Merlin, Guinevere etc, but with a really fresh and original twist. It's like a prequel while they're still growing up and stuff. Also, as you can see, they've made Merlin the same age as Arthur rather than an old bearded mentor. :P
