Shoes are the problem, we're all supposed to be barefoot to begin with. It only seems uncomfortable and unsanitary to you because that's all that you were taught, however, the truth is our feet become very unhealthy whilst wearing shoes. Shoes cause many foot problems, even minor problems like flat feet or poor posture. There's about 31 muscles that are dormant whilst using shoes, this is why it is important to go barefoot. I love my TOMS, but please quit brainwashing everyone about shoes.

my college always does this and i never even knew it was about children needing shoes and toms. fail on that. i just thought it was my hippie school

If you can't go more than a day barefoot, your feet need strengthening, badly. Appreciate? Should be more like a week unshod. Or wear shoes that promote barefoot mechanics. Toms shoes need to be redesigned, the last thing we want are thousands of children developing North American podiatric issues because we cram their toes into these glorified ballet shoes. If Blake had any podiatric knowledge whatsoever, he would know that rugged sandals are a much better option.
