Being an editor with Wordy means working from a standardised set of guidelines so that you know exactly what to do, and the client knows exactly what to expect from your work. Beyond that, there are a few things that are nice to know before starting out with Wordy.
In My Wordy, you can access the jobs you are currently working on, any open jobs that may be waiting from customers, and closed jobs - that is, jobs you have delivered to customers and that are finished and paid for.
Under open jobs you can see information about each job, such as word count, deadline, your earnings and the job's file format. Wordy handles Microsoft Word .doc and .docx, rich text format (.rtf), plain text (.txt) and Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf) files. Also, as Wordy is integrated into content management systems (or CMS systems), you will work on HTML jobs.
Plain text and HTML jobs are done in Wordy's own on-screen editor, but the workflow for acquiring a job is exactly the same for all jobs on Wordy. Accept the order, and you are ready to go. For .txt or plain text jobs, you are welcome to copy the text to your own word processor and paste it back into the window when you have finished the work. For HTML jobs, all editing must be done in the on-screen editor.
The on-screen editor automatically saves your work and tracks changes. So, unless you have comments on the text, simply edit as you would any other job. When you are done, click "Finish editing and deliver order"; the customer is now prompted for a completed order, and can review your changes.
.Doc, .docx, .rtf, and PDF jobs are edited locally. This means that when you accept the order, you must download the text to your own computer. As with all other work on Wordy, you are bound by the confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement stated in Wordy's privacy terms. Please handle local files with the same professional discretion as you would all other jobs.
When editing a Word .doc or .docx document, always use the Track Changes feature, so that the customer knows exactly what you have done with the text. When you have finished editing, simply upload your document back to Wordy. Remember, you should always see a confirmation screen when you have uploaded a document. If you do not see the confirmation screen, refresh your browser window, login again if necessary, and try the upload again.
When editing a PDF job, please use the Text Edits tool in Adobe Acrobat Professional. Do not convert the PDF to another format, import the PDF into another application, or do anything else to change or disrupt the original PDF. Please do not accept PDF format orders unless you have Adobe Acrobat Professional. When you have finished editing a PDF, simply upload the revised file back to Wordy.
Do not accept a job unless you have the time to do it within the set deadline. If a job turns out to be impossible to deliver within the set deadline for some reason (for example, if the language is in too bad a shape or if the text requires massive editing and/or even writing or re-writing), please cancel the job and notify Wordy right away.
In your account balance history you can track your earnings as well as all payments from Wordy. Due to the cost of bank transfers, the minimum amount payable to you is not less than €100. If this minimum amount is not reached within a particular period, Wordy is entitled to carry the amount due to you over to the next period, and so on, until the minimum amount is reached. Be sure to fill in your bank information so that Wordy can transfer your earnings. If you have a PayPal ID, you can enter "N/A" in all fields and then just supply the necessary information in the PayPal ID field. In your account information, you can also set a new password and specify the languages and subjects you specialise in.
Remember, if you need any help with being an editor on Wordy, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Thanks for making Wordy the fastest and most reliable way of adding professional copy-editing to any writing process.
