@AtomicMonster454 If I am correct, St. James has the largest number of parishoners out of any church in Lakewood. They already are filled with people.
This is a great video of a very sad thing. I loved that church. I grew up there and compare every church I go to against St. James. None come close. I hope people are trying to do something there. I will help if there is something I can do.
My father went to school there. However, my comment isn't based upon religion, nor is it about money. It's about securing the history that Lakewood used to hold dear. Does anyone think that shutting down St. James is truly a great idea? It's been a staple within Lakewood for DECADES. People who came from many countries held this church close. Should money tear down something that people with no money built for the community?
What a stunning, moving video. We moved to Lakewood in l959 and I went to St. James 6th through 8th grades and church thereafter. I always knew it was a treasure, a truly old world church. Some of my brothers and sisters went to the school closing a few years back. So sad. Don;t destroy it, take it apart if need be, let the parts of it live on in our lives.'
As a begrudging landlord, stuck with properties that no longer fill the coffers. So many problems like attendance & without a stable, heavy hand of an old style monsignor, reinforces the churches decision to sell. Let the heartsick & devoted dig deep; the landlord will move on; the real money is in the 3rd world; little investment & so many souls wanting succor & solace. No need for the Da Vinci Code myths; self-preservation, not souls, is the churchs singular motivation
The sign at the end of the Video was made by my sister, Avery! She asked my mom what she and her friends could do to help the Bishop understand how much the church meant to them. My mom told them to make posters for the town hall meeting. My sister asked what the posters should say and my mom said they should say what you feel.
Great video, I heard that the Bishop wants to build a 250 Million Office Building next to St. Johns. In essence, St. James will pay for two floors of Office Space, like drywall and cublicles. Why would anyone trash Cathlolic culture, heritage and tradition for Corpoarate Office Space. If he just lets the 14 churches stay open, we can help him on his massive project, but why hurt your children so so so deeply by doing it this way. God

What have parishners done to fill the pews up with people? Have they activley evangelised? If not, you have no right to complain about closings.

My mom and dad were married at this church and my sisters and I attended the school for 4 years.
Closing the school was bad enough.
Why take away our church as well?
