  • Believe it or not, this started out as an unsold (and unaired) hour-long pilot for a projected weekly series ["STRANDED"] starring Richard Egan, co-produced by his company, for NBC's 1966-'67 season. Universal expanded the pilot with additional footage featuring a different supporting cast {and changing the original ending, which would have led to a weekly version of "LOST" without the sci-fi, conspiracy and time travel elements}, and initially released this film in Europe in the fall of '67.

  • @fromthesidelines Could you cite source? Thank in advance.

  • ABC's version, "THE NEW PEOPLE" (1969-'70) [young people surviving a plane crash on a deserted island designed for atomic testing], was created by Rod Serling (who wrote the pilot episode), produced by Aaron Spelling and Danny Thomas, and was a 45 minute series that lasted 17 episodes, 'Whistler'.

  • ABC did a series like this. It was an experiment, a 45 minute show. If I am correct I think they sued "LOST," when it came on the air. They lost.

  • Certainly, 'ribbon'- Lee Goldberg's book, "Unsold Television Pilots: 1955 through 1988" [McFarland & Co., 1990]. The "Television Obscurities" website has an article, "Building NBC's 1966-1967 Schedule", that mentions the original "STRANDED" pilot.

  • @ribbonrain Thank you very much for this!
