This is a most excellent critical analysis of Jazz. Brutally honest and totally factual. This 35 minute film packs more of a wallop than the ENTIRE 10 disc Ken Burns Jazz documentary.

The Cry of Jazz succeeds in its dramatization of a discussion between blacks and whites where the blacks participating in the dialouge actually carry the story rather than being the by-standers listening to whites tell our story.

  • "Notice the difference between this music, and the music of the whites.." - ... Uh, okay? The only difference here is the difference that can't be seen when listening to the music -- the fact that one is black and one is white. Both of those recordings are swinging as hell. I love all musicians. P.S. I am a black american.

  • @bopbrother.... you are cracking walnuts in your ass. You irritate me because your comment praises you and condemns the comments as cats that don't play jazz. You stand in your ignorance and I wash my hands and feet of you.

  • i think he is saying negro as a rude counterpoint..i can tell the narrator knows whats up

  • The Negro is the only American that's human? Again the Jazz Greats in the Burns doc own words disagree with that. Think about what they, not the commentators, the actual artist said about people in that documentary.

  • Maybe the difference in styles was more a contrast between woking class and the affluent rather than White or Black. Take Miles Davis Cookin' Walkin' Steamin' for example of affluet black sound.

  • Cool footage. The ideas presented are total crap. The electrification of rhythm? LOL Look, I've played with the greatest names in jazz since the late '70's... never heard anyone talk this garbage. This kind of rhetoric comes from cats who don't play jazz, but rather, philosophize about jazz music. That is really lame. It's a music of western influences developed by mostly black americans and draws mostly from white musical influences and their own experiences.

  • Understand that prejudice and racism are not the same.. Prejudice means to "pre-judge" another without really knowing them. Racism is always "race based" and is properly defined as one race that deprives, excludes, and hinders another race from attaining the same economic, educational, social privileges, respect, and status they enjoy. African Americans have not owned and controlled enough of the nations wealth to hinder or deprive any other race.

  • @SanchoLoraPendejo1 What does islam have to do with any of this? You're messed up kid.

  • @figocooldude Are you trying to insult Allah's degenerate cocK

  • @SanchoLoraPendejo1 Idiot, socialism is a form of government in which all property belongs to the state. Fascism is a government with a huge state, but with private property *cough cough the USA.

I understan why you call yourself PENDEJO.

    Long live JAZZ.
