Hey man. I have an 83 Golf GTI (euro) with a 16v 2.0 corrado engine in it. I like your rabbit.

Anyway, I had the exact same problem with my bootlid. If you take off the tailgate lock and spray the fuck out of it with penetrating fluid eg wd40, it should fix the problem :)
