Aesop Rock - The Next Best Thing

The world's greatest thing ever thung.

This Def Jux underground vet Aesop Rock performing "The Next Best Thing" off of a limited edition 45 put out by Upper Playground by the same name. This is the A-side to the record, the B-side is called "Fish Tales," and is the basis for the song "The Harbor Is Yours." This was a collaboration with Jeremy Fish, an artist who works with Upper Playground. Jeremy contributed a book to accompany the 45.

The event was a meet and greet in August of 2006 at the Portland Oregon Upper Playground store (located at 23 NW 5th Ave in PDX). Both Jeremy & Aesop were there, and even though he just landed in town, he volunteered to rock the two tracks from the 45. Ace was using a small karaoke set up at 3 PM at a book signing in a clothing store so if the crowd looks a little confused, let it slide.

Oh yeah, shout out to Papa J from Upper Playground, a good friend of mine who I caught scratchin' his nose after messing with the stereo.
