@unclefroggyiscool shiv kumar sharma (santoor) has had a loooong (at least 45 years) association with hari prasad chaurasia (flute) during which they have played and recorded many a duets. shiv kumar sharma was the first to play indian classical music on a modified kashmiri santoor. once you can climb that mountain you can probably play duets with any other instrument, no? so i don't know where your "santoor was not meant to be played like that" comment is coming from....
