I was just recounting to a buddy how disappointing any child of an alcoholic in the 60's watching this movie would find it...watching the climax when the dad shows up (SPOILER? I guess?) wasted to the shebang with the cartons of ice cream all melted and Kurt Russell is just mortified. If memory serves, the resolution of that scene is an almost immediate shot of Kurt having been adopted by MacMurray's scout master. Sorry, kids, it never ever works that way...your drunk dad never gets there at all
