Geared Drives FWF engine package for P-51 at idle and run up very conservatively since we were testing ignition only and there was no prop installed. Note how smoothly the engine transitions from low RPM to higher RPM. Nice rumbling sound through the short custom exhaust, volume increased via the collector with baffling within to provide back pressure and guard against shock cooling the valves.

My dad had a 32 ford coupe rod that has a engine about the same size as this and about the same sound. Except idle is even lower rpms. I wonder, can these be put into a vehicle?

very cool. Obviously not as cool as a merlin but they are getting harder and harder to find these days. I would think that these are easyer to get parts support and repairs for Pretty cool

So that's a Chevy LS-1 engine...? Pretty cool. Sounds great... like my bosses Z06 Corvette. What kind of mods are done to the engine and what kind of horsepower do you get out of it. Stupid question but this is for the small Mustangs, correct (Thunder Mustangs...???)?

The reason why we are running the engine slowly and not rapping it out is because it has no load of a propeller on it and it is not good for the engine to run at high RPM without a load to pull. We are only running it so be sure that there are no leaks, loose connections, or anything else prior to delivery.

This engine was built by Geared Drives and sports its own propeller speed reduction unit to reduce engine RPMs to the propeller so that it turns at the best rate for prop efficiency. One reason for using an Chevy is the improved fuel economy and far less expensive maintenance compared to a certified aircraft engine. Comparing an equally rated HP certified engine to the Chevrolet in initial cost, the Chevy is less expensive, and is far less expensive once TBO is reached.
