The Old Mill Lane site at Barnsley College was being pulled down by demolition experts on Wednesday morning. The building, which has stood for about 50 years, is to be replaced by a new £60 million base. A pincer machine nibles away at the structure.

@GBscottieUK It was needed though this building is replacing 2, not only the Old Mill Lane site but the honeywell site too, which is falling to pieces. how is money being invested in real estate? the ground that the new building was already owned by Barnsley College and is one of the few Colleges that applied for new buildings that got theirs. I cant believe you think this a bad thing. 16-19 year olds dont pay tuition fees which is primarily the people that attend BC so you got that wrong too.

@Jaya365 I wish the money had of been invested in education and not realestate. The fact the chance to update the buildings comes every 30 or so years, and not on a needs basis is also part of the problem and somthing that needs to change.

@GBscottieUK this wasnt a waste of money the new building was needed its about 4 times bigger than the old one and will be full to capacity when opened, whats more the moeny for these things comes round about every 30 years so not to apply for the money would have been silly just another person knocking progress in barnsley. The building was not fit for purpose it was out dated too small and had increasing maintenance costs. Surely investing in education cannot be seen as a waste?

A perfect example of Labour's waste, did this building really need to come down? Was it not fit for purpose? Pretty modern buildings do not result in better teaching and better grades.
It's like when they keep refurbing pubs and shops , f**ck the refurbishment give us cheaper prices. The same goes for colleges and universities which at the end of the day students must pay for though increases tuition fees.
