  • You are really missing the point. It's not about graphics. It;s realistic naval strategy.

  • Its the 'guts' of the game. Useless? Well shows your knowledge of the sim then...

  • harpoon 4 was in development with graphics but failed to complete.

  • And just to make a point, I don't use the Harpoon 3 video feature, its only purpose was to let the player know 'what' event was happening.

  • I want to also state that FC is a great game, I have played it and liked it and in all fairness, I haven't played the latest version, so as I stated before I am biased. It comes down to user preference.

  • Ok then, I guess you know more than the Navies do and a lot of things have changed since 1997, so its like I said, you havent played it lately.:::: I guess FC rules the whole Naval Warfare community etc., Harpoon sucks and Fleet Command rules. Whatever.

To those reading this, do your own research. I can sum it IMHO, EyeCandy = FC, Accuracy and realism = Harpoon.

  • @EthanAtsinger Harpoon 4 wasn't worth finishing because JFC was already out and better than anything they could come up with. Last time I played Harpoon was 1997. Anyway, I already have the J-20 model along with PAK FA and F-22. I can have my BVR and dogfights with stealth fighters while actually watching the battle rather than some stupid little video in the corner that isn't even of the actual item.

  • And just for the record, I am biased because I have been with Harpoon for YEARS. I just wonder what you exposure is to it. You seem to like Naval Games but claiming you can not modify Harpoon leads me to believe you haven't played it. As for the graphics, they were designed for a 486 in DOS. There have been very little changes other than a new DB picture set.

  • @stalkingalizee First, Harpoon4 was not just the graphics model, it was the underlying rules, again Harpoon4.1 paper Rules. Are you familiar with the paper rules, NAVTAG etc? OH yes you can modify Harpoon, tremendously. I have fooled with my own doctrine files in FC. Look, I like fleet command, but I choose to play Harpoon. Lately, Harpoon Classic, but for years its been Harpoon 3 version.

  • @EthanAtsinger Harpoon 4 was based on adding graphic models into the game which is what JFC had already done. The "guts" of JFC's calculations are all editable, I have spent several hours adding the proper ranges, probabilities, RCS, guidance, and doctrines. You can't do all that in Harpoon much less add visual models.

Or maybe some guy claimed to be a RAN officer who wanted a discount on the game. You have no idea if you never meet them.

  • @EthanAtsinger - And Harpoon 4 was canceled because of crappy programming. It was canceled by Larry Bond and the Publisher as not sell-able and that it would damage the harpoon name. It was no where ready and no more money was there to fix it. UbiSoft that was them. As for Modern stuff, I believe the harpoon wins hands down again, all they way up to the F-35 and F-22, and just for giggles, the new Chinese Stealth. Anyway, Good luck but I can tell you haven't really played Harpoon.

  • @EthanAtsinger : Furthermore, I am not arguing the Eye candy. FC wins hands down. I look for realism, not just a clickfest. FC was greatly improved by NWS for sure, but....Tell you what, look up a game/sim called Red Pill, when and if it comes out you will have the eye candy you desire, but until it OR harpoon '5' is released, the harpoon series remains the standard.
