The controversy over the wearing of the headscarf in Turkish society remerges as a result of the headscarf ban in universities. Is this ban a bid to strip away all religious labels in order to allow harmony or is it merely taking away some women's very identity.

  • Women's rights should work both ways. If a women doesn't want to wear it, she should be able to cast it off, if a women wants to wear it, then who the hell are we to tell her she can't? We have to look past our own views of what other people should or shouldn't do when it comes to personal belief.

Individual freedoms we chant here in the western world! But only when it suits us. Let's tell Christians they can't wear crosses in public anymore. It's a ridiculous notion.

  • @WorldIslamicOrder is that how muslims are supposed to talk? #LOL

  • @podiumgirl The problem is this; most of Turkey's universities are subsidised with government money, which makes it public property. And the rule is, headscarves are not to be worn in public buildings. By the way, for your information, France forbids crosses larger than a certain dimension (I believe anything larger than a small pendant) in public buildings as well. People can leave their religion at the door if they plan on using public money and facilities to study.

  • @OviSuite Different religions don't have problems with each other. But every religion has a problem with Islam. And Islam has a problem with every religion.

  • @podiumgirl What you said apparently sounds very rational. But there are some ground realities also. If scarf is not banned by force, one day Turkey will be talbanized. Scarf is dangerous for the future of Turkey, Cross is not.

Hence everyone should be given the freedom, except for those who favor scarf. I am a Pakistani with muslim background & i know very well where turkey is heading.

If seculars let you live, You won't let them live.

  • Kemalists want an authoritarian state? How ridiculous. We just want a proper secular democracy, thanks.

  • Why don't the authorities just give people freedom, wear the head scarf if you want and don't wear it if you don't... PROBLEM SOLVED.

  • this is dumb. i would probably understand the ban of burqa but the headscarves? thts just stupid.

  • @raju786 Reason is security, man are not allowed to wear hats or caps either... it's about SECURITY. they have to have a full view of the person's face, for easy recognition in case of kidnapping or disaster.

not about oppressing anyone... no one is telling them not to be Islamic, so don't be over-dramatic.

  • this is digusting

    secular constitution ..... oh please

why is everyone against islam? DO U KNOW WHY BECAUSE ISLAM IS TRUTH

poor sisters just wanted to get educated

    and live there life

    islam is the truth

is ok to be naked ...... but when she covered up .... she oppressed

    this is world now

  • @hafiidz3 no, if Turkey was truly following the "kafir", then we wouldn't have this ban. i mean look at all the "kafir" countries they are so free in terms of the liberties they grant to moslems, including the headscarf, the reason many turkish moslem females emigrate to kafiristan to study. so don't be so demeaning of kafirism. it has something good for everyone ;)
