  • Great comparison! It's always really interesting to hear two different models recorded in exactly the same setting. Thank you for doing this!

  • @fourteentwelve Thank you. I hope people enjoyed watching it as much as I enjoyed doing it.

  • have you got some reverb running?

    i like the sk38

  • @krabbers Yes. I have my H4 default set to "light acoustic" and I forgot to turn it off on the first song and talking part (up to 2:55). The sound comparison clips after 2:55 have no reverb.

  • nicely done

  • @LStrachey Thanks.

  • I can't wait to get my hands on one of those.

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele Yup, that's the key with these sound demos. Generic computer (or worse) laptop speakers don't tell you much other than "Hey, it's an ukulele!" Some decent headphone and a basic usb amp/dac works wonders. It's not a full on audio rig, but better than integrated speakers! Preach it to the choir! :)

Having said all that, these are modern classics.

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele Thanks Ken. I was a bit surprised myself at how close they were, but still different. As you've said before, its very hard to describe in words, but the 38 just feels more balanced. I will have to play an SK-38 in about a year and see how much it opens up.

  • Thanks very much. I think the two sound really quite different, especially through earphones. The basic tone is rather different and the dynamic response certainly is, even taking into account the settling in of the strings.Certainly an excellent comparison.
