Ok, for those of you who are confused, this movie was released in Japan in 2010.

It was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and scripted by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa.

Toshio Suzuki produced the film and Studio Ghibli provided the animation.

Two English language versions of the film were produced, a British dub which was released in the United Kingdom on July 29, 2011, and an American dub released by Walt Disney Pictures in North America on February 17, 2012.

Just saying that appreciating the characters for what they are is kinda the deal here. If the male protagonist does grow a pair (though i don't see the need for guts since he's asking Arrietty the question, who really should be scared of the midget granny), the movie would lose its charm. I'm not arguing with you though, to each his own of course.

Have you even watched the movie? If you have, you'll know how much the nature of the two protagonists differs, which is what makes the movie beautiful. Arrietty is strong willed, energetic and impulsive. Shawn on the other hand, calm, collected and patient. Oh and he has a weak heart and is scared he's gonna die. Its not about the situation they're in, its their character.
