Native American Girl Singing: I Will Always Love You (2005)

This is a live recording of J. Gilmore as she performs at a revue show in Oklahoma. She is a mostly self-taught musician who enjoys writing her own music, playing the guitar, and singing with her local church's choir. Unfortunately, she was a member of this particular singing group for only two years, and she has since moved on. Right now she is attending medical school and hopes to one day work for the Indian Health Services as a pediatrician. She is pround to be both Chickasaw and Creek (two Native American tribes) And she is also proud to be half Filipino.

She's talented but it's also very profound, I think, that she identifies as proud to be NDN and also Filipino. From 92 to nowadays it's become ok to shoutout your NDN heritage but it takes a courageous person to say, "yeah, my mom is Lumbee, and my dad's Irish" or "I was raised Cheraw but I get my good looks from being both Cheraw and Swede," or whatever, Know what I mean?
