In this Video, we see the miracle of flight itself, and the beginnings of a new life for this wren family. I was sitting out on our deck this afternoon, just enjoying the outdoors, when I began noticing the parent birds feeding their young. I saw the baby birds craning their little necks up over the watering can. They were waiting for mama/daddy bird to bring around the next batch of freshly caught worm. I grabbed our camera, thinking, this would be a cute shot, to film them feeding the babies. Imagine my surprise when I saw that very first baby bird, just completely hop on out of the nest. Then 3 more of his siblings followed suit. After all, our 2 dogs were also there with me, sitting at my feet. I was so afraid they would see the babies as they struggled to make each little short flight up each stair, and chase after them. I have never witnessed such a thing, and certainly never filmed it. I feel very privileged indeed!! I will never forget such a thing! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the progress of these baby birds over the past few weeks, It has been a real blessing to me. It is a bittersweet ending to see them fly way, but life goes on as it must..... instantly the passage of Matthew 6, verses 25 - 34 came to mind, that if he cares for the birds of the air such as these, surely he cares for me (us)...

  • My apologies for the "poop" scenes, guess they had to lighten the load to fly, also my apologies for the shakiness of the camera, was trying to hold onto the collar of our dachshund/beagle mix, as he had already heard and seen the birds.. (Jack, our black lab, was Mr. Mellow, laying over there oblivious to it all). I wanted to go inside and take the dogs with me, but unfortunately all this baby birds commotion was taken place between us and the door...

  • AT 52-53 and 1:04, the other birds are saying, :OMG did you see what Frank just did!" ha ha ha

  • How hilariously fitting is it , that the 2nd song playing in the background that came on the radio - is Under Pressure.....

  • This was wonderful to watch. Last May, we had a family of carolina wrens four feet from our back door in a planter in our little greenhouse. We visited them frequently from the time they hatched, and the momma and daddy birds didn't care.

Sadly, a neighbor cat got them one night when the oldest was about 10 days old. We heard a commotion and ran out to find the nest empty. Next day the parents were still bringing food. It was heartbreaking to watch, but at least they survived.

  • This, by far, is the best first flight video I've seen!
