Meet Solei', a fawn that came in unable to stand. Watch how we have to prop her up to feed her and see how she is working to improve the strength in her legs.

Please join us on our Facebook fan page for frequent updates on our wildlife work at Paws Animal Wildlife Sanctuary. We have many photos and more videos there.

  • why did you put the other foals in the small cages?

and thank you helping the deers:)

  • @rivnerivne : When the babies are very young, they are kept indoors. They stay in carriers like the ones behind me. They come out cage by cage during feeding times and are allowed to play loose all together (after eating). This mimics the doe's behavior of 'parking' the babies when they are this age, while keeping them safe in an indoor setting. As soon as they are old enough (ie. tall enough) to reach a bottle rack, they are moved to an outdoor enclosure.

  • @rivnerivne : Also, the cages look small in the video, but I have to crawl inside them to clean! LOL! I actually have to disassemble the cage completely to get it in and out of the room since it's too big to fit through the doorway of the room. So they are a lot bigger than they look. When the fawns are loose in the room, they will bolt into their carriers if they get startled at any point. So they consider it their 'safe place'.

  • @pawssc thank you for explaining:) and she is very very sweet:) I hope she will be good thanks to good people like you:) thank you again:)

  • @rivnerivne : Did you watch all of the "Solei" videos? She was released and hung around for a little while and then ran off to be a wild deer, never to be seen again.... And that's OK. That's what she was supposed to do. It was an honor to be able to work with her.

  • Absolutely precious! I hope she's doing better!

  • Solei was released back into the wild on October 21, 2009. I saw her last night (a week after release) and she is doing great and loving life as a free deer!
