She put her life on the line in 'The Cove,' the Oscar-winning documentary about the killing of dolphins. Now Hayden Panettiere is back for more, and we have your first look.

It's Hayden's return to the notorious dolphin killing cove in Taiji, Japan.

"Because of how beautiful it is and how bright and sunshine-y it is, and the fact that the last time I'd seen the waters they were covered in blood, and there were pilot whales caught in nets the fact that this time there weren't, it lifted me up a little bit," Hayden tells ET of her recent visit to the exotic and infamous site.

The actress' October 2007 visit there, on the other hand, was fraught with danger. Hayden, just 17, and five others paddled out to confront a crew of Japanese fisherman.

As seen in 'The Cove,' the peaceful protest turned violent, as the fishermen turned their poles and spinning propellers on the protesters. The police were called, and Hayden's group ran for it.

"We didn't know whether we were going to spend the night in jail or be caught," Hayden remembers. She was cited -- not arrested. She's spent the years since as a marine mammal activist and is presently the spokesperson for the Save the Whales Again! Campaign. (link)

Hayden's recent return visit to Japan was a lot less confrontational. It including getting hundreds of local kids to form a giant human painting -- a man and a dolphin.

"The biggest thing it changed about me was the feeling of empowerment," Hayden tells ET. "It's so easy to say, 'I'm just one person. What could I possibly do?'"

  • i had to watch the cove for school, i found it so terrible, and i don't see the point of killing the dolphins when there is a chance of getting mercury poisoning from eating them anyway. if you haven't seen this documentary i recommend you do!
