@Haunted360 Maybe, but it wouldn't recognize the HDD as long as we can make a PS1 disk that tells it to do that...
So i thinked a PS2 dvd unit on the ps1!:)

@Haunted360 I recommend for this project to make a hole about the horizontal size of the loader. And be careful when doing that,i STRONGLY recommend if you do this to solder the chip that controls the cd to be soldered eitheron the bottom of cd compartiment or elsewhere where it can stay safely

@bacovia2004 What would be the point in making the original CD-ROM reader, into a DVD-ROM reader when it would be doing the same thing? a Hard Disk based system would be better, replacing the CD-ROM drive and making it obsolete.
-
@Haunted360 can you make it think the dvd is a normal original psx cd?it would be cool doing that and the ps1 to think it's a original disk (for unmodded systems and i mean no clips or modchip)?
-
@bacovia2004 You can make it load from a DVD-ROM, so long as you can do some serious reverse engineering on sony's non documented chips. Making it play PS2 or PS3 games is impossible. You would have to be a real moron to think that it is possible to do such a thing :P

@Haunted360 Can you make a DVD PS1 (being able to load PS2 games too even PS3 copied!)?

@death2selfrecords Nono. I meant that the same spindle / hub technology is in them. They use a brushless motor with a brushless motor controller. In the PS1, they used a brushed motor. Yes. This is the drive disassembled. I ordered a motor (brushed) for this drive and fitted it in with the correct spindle on it. Any 5.9 (6) volt brushed motor will work fine. If I was to use the brushless, it would be a huge headache as I would need to make the controller for it.

You were mentioning in this video about the drive being used in PS3s, Xboxs and DVDs... Does this mean that it's also a DVD reader? Can it read and play DVDs? Also, the drive you're showing us right now... that's the slot-in drive when it's disassembled right? You basically just swapped the motor from the PSOne over to the slot loading drive, right?
so will you write a tutorial/how you did this and with what parts

@Chandler455 No. No tutorials or any guides. I will document very little information on my site, mainly because it was a boring project.
