On top of that they are most likely going to be doing the Directing/DP work themselves.Once more its not as hard to get experienced people to jump on a lowlowlow budget film as you think. You may not be able to get the best, but you can get people that have enough experience to get it done. Its all about being creative with what you have and being able to be resourceful. If you gave a unknown Spielberg a HV-20,I bet you what he gave you back would be better than a lot of proper hollywood movies.

Oh EFFANDJEFF, there you go again using that word "proper". What's you're idea of a proper film's budget? You are totally right about attracting a more experienced crew. I really understand where you're coming from. I do. The thing is, and this is BIG one. The majority of people that are not "professionals" that want to become "professionals" are not going to be able to afford anything other than a HV-20 or DVX-100.

Dude, its not the camera; its you. if you honestly believe that the HVxx series is good at soft focus, you're doing something wrong. Are you importing it correctly? Exporting it correctly? Is it possibly in MF mode, and you don't know it?

Slapping a film lens adapter on a camera will not make it crisp. It will do the exact opposite. The whole point of a 35mm adapter is to achieve a shallow DOF, and as such you will blur the background and bring foreground into focus. I'm not saying that they're bad, they add to the "film-ic" look and style of trying to emulate film stock, but they do NOT make it more crisp.

you need a film lens adapter to get crisp video. Even the 4000 dollar models don't deliver quality without the lenses. That's why a decent amount of professionals choose this camera, because it makes the eventual cost less after the 200-2000 dollar adapters you need to buy no matter what camera you buy.
looks great. is this shot right out of the box or do you have special lens/software to make it look this good? I'm hoping to get a camera soon and need to know if I can get quality of image this good out of the box.

It was so long ago I don't remember. I am sorry. Haven't shot anything for a long time.
