This is a video I designed and commissioned in 2003 (created by a great digital agency, Flare Creative, the original founder and MD now runs a successful mobile apps company). I created this video to promote BT WhASP, a new cloud computing platform that I designed and launched while at BT.
I have always believed that user interface design and social interaction are at the heart of the success of any technology innovation, and so the video was designed to promote these elements to our customers. It is worth noting that Facebook didn't launch until February 2004, almost a year after we launched this service.
The platform was designed and built as an enabler and "Service Creation Environment" for service providers to offer a full service branded offering to our customers, including broadband, mobile video, social media and personalisation services, mobile email, Internet micro-payments, live interactive mobile services, real-time audience participation, integrated CRM and personalised TV. The platform included a mobile personalisation technology developer by Rocking Frog, a BT Adastral Park venture.
The platform was an industry first, nominated "Best Technology Foresight" in 2003. The name was discontinued but different elements of the platform continue to provide BT business customers with a range of white-label services today. We originally launched with a number of major brands including ITV, Universal, Capital Radio Group, O2 and BT Broadband and BT Openzone. As white-label service, the BT brand never appeared of course.
