This ToneSlinger video demo takes an even slate look at 5 condenser microphones for guitar cabinets. All tone samples were recorded simulatneously out of the same amplifier, the same guitar, at the same time. All the microphones were set slightly off axis so that they can be placed side by side.
The microphones demoed in this video include: AKG C300B, AKG C1000S, AT 3035, RODE NT-1 and MXL 993.
Be sure to check out part 2 which covers three dynamic guitar amp microphones: The Shure SM57, Audix I-5, and the Sennheiser E609 Silver

  • You can't compare Mics which are not in the same position ...

  • I like the picture.

  • why you didn`t play the same thing on each mic individually .... that could be a good review...in the studio at3035 is better than rode nt-1 but here you`ve played crapy sound guitar on at3035...so please make a good review with the same sound on each mic....best wishes

  • A word of advice. Having that loud, long intro song kinda ruins your ears for the demo about to take place. Maybe shorten it or find something quieter?

  • i have heard so many things but do you think condenser mics are are better for live shows or are dynamic mics better for live shows?

  • great demos, but I wish you'd have had some ribbon mics too. I've heard some ribbon mics that are incredibly realistic in the way they recreate your amp's sound. That being said I'm a SM57 user for whenever I play live and when I do recordings I'll combine the 57 right on the cab with a Rode Nt1-A about 4 feet away to capture the "room noise" of the guitar

  • 3035, no question.

  • Really wish all the mics had been in the same positon relative to the speaker center to get a more accurate comparison....

  • @jjmillsaps interesting. So how would you explain the fact that some of the GREATEST guitar tones ever recorded were done with a mic at dead center cone, 90 degrees, right up against the grill cloth?
