Anna Pavlova is very well-known for her great journeys, taking ballet to so many often remote parts of the world.

This video shows a couple of photographs from her visit to Australia in either 1926 or 1929, and then gives some footage of her setting out for a Canadian tour.

A lot of material was generated during her Australian tours and is housed in the National Library here - http://www.nla.gov.au/collect/prompt/pavlova.html

On a personal note, my parents lived in Murrumbeena in the 1920s, next to Merrick Boyd, known as 'The King of Austrlian Potters' - and during one of Pavlova's visits to this country she sat for a Wedgewood-like frieze for a cylindrical vase. My mother remembers peeping through the fence as the great dancer arrived for the portrait. So close!

Judy and David have very kindly told us that the second photograph I've used in this little video is of 'Pavlova and Nina Kirsanova with Ernst Krauss (Dutch impresario) and his wife c.1927 at the commencement of her tour of the Netherlands. My thanks again for their taking the time to pass this information on!
