Running Digitrax's basic system, the Zephyr on my layout. The track itself is quite old (parents thought it was still okay, but its all warped. It will be replaced too, capturing final moments of this setup.)

Featuring:
-CP Rail AC4400 #9516 (Intermodal Lead) [Kato] with a SDH104K1A+FN04K1 sound decoder from Digitrax.
-CP Rail AC4400 #9567 (Intermodal Unit 2) [Kato] with a SDH104K1A+FN04K1 sound decoder from Digitrax.

And:
-Go Transit F7A #904 (on right on view) [Athearn] still analog, the source of the anoying buzz, wrecking the other sound lol, a side effect of analog on DCC. Goes away when unit speeds up, but I kept it stantionary so w/e.
-Go Transit F7A #901 (on left of view) [Athearn] still analog, on a siding with a power-routing switch set to oppose its siding aka off.
-CP Rail AC4400 #9519 ("Running Light" stopped on main) [Athearn] acting as a "broken-down" unit, to justify the intermodal swapping mains.
-CP Rail C424 #4246 ("Yard Engine") [Atlas] sitting in the "yard" adding some visual interest and a block from the mountain of tools behind............

Hope you enjoy this video.

  • 2:01 answered my question. I'm 14 and want to get started using DCC. What all ahs to be done to install DCC?

  • @bnsf5624illinois

It depends on what system you get, and how your layout is setup. It is actually very easy. I would recommend picking up books by Kalmbach (The publisher of Model Railroader Magazine) on getting started in DCC. The MR staff are experts at explaining how-to when it comes to the model railroad!

  • I noticed your loco has ditch lights installed are they static on/off or alrternating between the two when the horn is activated? I have a Bachman sd 40-2 and want to add ditch lights to it but am unsure as to how to go about it as i am completely new to dcc and don't know where i world weld the wires to on the dcc decoder.

  • @gc53dfgc

The ditchlights are static. Depending on the decoder, it will vary how to install, if the decoder even allows it. There are articles in Model RailRoader Magazine, and your local shop may be able to help aswell. DCC is alot easier once you get going.

Oh nice. Both my cab-cars happened to be numbered the same (i dont recall the number off hand). I plan to model Modern Era, freelanced. I plan to mix in some vintage equipment aswell, I dont like having VIA taken over passenger service, when I could make up something more visually appealing. However, for the long run, having a few Go Trains making the scheduling tight will be fun. How long do you plan to, or actually run your go trains?

  • @GeorgetownRailfan907

    #901 & #904

I didnt think that the F7A's were still available.

I plan to get some more Go Equipment, possible some of the Go GP40s, I beleive Atlas made some once.
