My absolute favorite Tom Rush song. Excellent interpretation. What a beautiful voice and haunting, yet simple, guitar work. Definitely the case where less is more. I saw his early performances at Boston's Unicorn Coffee House in 1965.

Joni Mitchell wrote this, but I think I like his version better.

"Urge for Going" was written no later than Aug 1966. Here's another early recording by Joni of "Urge for Going" - Aug 17, 1966, to be shown on Canadian TV, according to the following link: vimeodotcom/16647678

I think that you are wrong about that - I've seen a Youtube video of Joni with her then husband, Chuck, singing and playing this song live on a Canadian show. I'm pretty sure that Joni split from Chuck long before she ended up in Southern California. The Tom Rush album, "The Circle Game," on which this track appears dropped in 1968, so it couldn't possible have been written later than 1968.

Thumbs up if you first heard this incredible song on Boston's WBZ -- Radio 103!

You have no idea Nikos. We were young, and thought we were indestructable, and Big Sur was the most beautiful place in the world[well that was true at least].
Judy was with David at that time, and Joni with Grahm, and sometimes they would come down to a little store/cafe/bar and just sing. That place was destroyed in one of the land slides
This song in particular bringd back those memories, as does Joni's ."Don't know where I stand"
