Americans treated Filipinos as stupid natives with zero education oblivious of the fact that the best and the brightest are even educated in Madrid (ie. Jose Rizal and the Ilustrados).
The American colonial period was the golden age of Spanish literature in the Philippines due primarily to the rebellion of the educated class. These educated and enlightened Filipinos unfortunately are those that perished the most during WWII.
The words "Viva La Republica Filipina!" will never be forgotten.

@HinataHyugaByakuganK Perhaps the jackass who called it alibata and amazingly managed some how to associate it with arabic characters turned people away. Regardless, they don't know what their missing with not publicizing and making not just baybayin, but the other sulats as well like kulitan, buhid, hanunoo official writing systems.

@vborneo Spain sounded like they were just beginning their worst during the philippine uprising, regardless they still trashed and fucked up the culture, whilst I agree that the Americans did the same thing as well + their so called "liberations" especially with maynila did most of the destruction, even surpassing the Japanese some people say, Spain did almost the same numbers of damage not in mere materials, but in our identity and culture.
@tierraboricua: I totalyl Agree!!! LOL! Spain was merely a mercantile nation who sucked at it as well. USA extracted so much in 20yrs than spain did in 300yrs. Now digest that those who keep denying that the US did in fact exploit. Spain did not almost exterminate our timber. Spain did no mass killings. Spain did not employ brainwash tactics.
