These commercials aired on ABC on October 16th, 1982

1. M&M's (I miss the giant bags and tan M&M's. Also, the M&M's don't seem very concerned about being EATEN ALIVE)
2. Phisoderm
3. Starburst (I'm afraid that my life won't feel complete until I go down a waterslide made of fruit. Get on it America!)
4. Certs Silver
5. Promo for "ABC's Wide World Of Sports"
6. Eyewitness News Curiosity File (Well that Jesus painting sure cheered me up)
7. Memorex
8. Trident
9. "AB"/Noxema Commercial Bumper ("Dry...is a lie")
10. Pearl Drops
11. Impulse
12. Close Up (Wonderful acting here)
13. 3 Musketeers (I totally remember that packaging with the little cartoon musketeers)
14. Promo for "Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour" (Cartoons in the early 80's seem to have been ridiculously awful)

  • I actually had forgotten that there used to be Tan M &M's..

  • RIP Tan M&M's

     1949-1995 Never forget...

  • @80sCommercialVault really? I don't remember the tan ones...Wonder what year they got rid of them.

  • @sugarrrsmack My little epitaph was no joke. They were introduced in 1949 and discontinued in 1995 in favor of the blue M&M.

  • Seeing that lady lick her teeth in the Pearl Drops commercial made me very uncomfortable for some reason.

  • It's been so many years but I found myself reciting the line from Impulse: "When a man you've never met before suddenly gives you flowers, that's Impulse." By the way, what a cool Starburst ad. It's on one of my 80's tapes!!!

P.S. Glad I'm not the only one who misses tan M&M's too!!

  • After seeing that "Close Up" commercial, I got the sudden urge to take a photograph of the tube of toothpaste I'm currently using, so I will know years from now what toothpaste I used in 2012 (also, I just realised I have no idea what toothpaste I use. Probably a colgate product though I might be wrong).

  • @gamma105 Me too!

  • Isn't the woman in the 3 Musketeers' commercial Susan Walters (who appeared on Melrose Place/The Young & the Restless)? I swear it is!

  • I like how the announcer says the boxer's North Carolina home town has been eagerly awaiting the fight right after the small graphic "Blackout in parts of No. Carolina" flashes on screen.

So, the Pearl Drop woman is just going to leave her groceries lying in the street? She's not going to see if there's anything salvageable in there?

Laverne, Shirley, and Fonzie don't seem like the type to join the army. And why, exactly, is a pig wearing a uniform? At least Fonzie isn't time traveling.

  • Who is that guy in the pearl drops commercial? Wasnt he in a sitcom at one point? I know that face!

  • Dick Clark NEVER ages! He is the ultimate in robotic technology.

Loved the trifecta of cheesy man/woman ads near the end!

Funny to see how much SMALLER 3 Musketeers is now, at an INCREASE in price, of course.

Finally, 80s cartoons based on existing sitcoms never really made it past a season. Case in point, the very end.

  • I totally remember the light brown M&Ms. And yeah, I was too young to remember them taking away the red ones (evident in this clip). I guess they thought the dye was unsafe. Wiki says they replaced them with orange, but kept orange when red was brought back.

  • "back in my day, Pearl Drops toothpaste commercials were my porn." haha

  • The Close Up couple are most definitely related...their kids are going to have two heads. And the Pearl Drops teeth lick nearly made me die laughing...

  • They had tan m and ms dont remember
